Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty (Nose reshaping)

Rhinoplasty or nose reshaping is surgery to reshape the nose. It can make the nose smaller or larger; change the angle of the nose with the upper lip; or correct bumps, alter the tip of the nose; indentations, or other defects in the nose.

It can be done for medical reasons, for example, correct breathing conditions related to the nose or correct disfigurement or deformities resulting from trauma or congenital disabilities.

It is done for cosmetic reasons as well, which will change the nose’s shape and appearance.

During rhinoplasty surgery, the doctor makes incisions to access the cartilage and the bones that support the nose. The incisions are commonly made inside the nose so that they areunseen after the surgery. Depending on the desired results, some bone and cartilage may be detached, or tissue may be added (either from some other part of the body or using a synthetic filler). After the doctor has rearranged and reshaped the bone and cartilage, the skin and tissue are re-draped over the nose. A splint is planted outside the nose to support the new shape of the nose as it heals.

What are the expectations after surgery?

The splint and bandaging around the nose will be removed in a week approximately.Your face will feel swollen, and the area around your eyes and nose will be bruised and swollen for several days. Cold compresses can help reduce pain and minimize swelling. The doctor may recommend pain medicine. It takes around 10 to 14 days before most of the swelling and bruising recovers. You may need to keep your head relatively still and elevated for the first few days after surgery. You would have to wait a few weeks before you can resumestrenuous activities.

Why is it performed?

Rhinoplasty surgery will adjust the size, shape, and angle of your nose and bring it into improved proportion with the rest of your face.Rhinoplasty may also be used to address structural problems with the nose that cause persistent coughing and breathing difficulties.

How well it Works?

The outcomes of the rhinoplasty procedure may be minor or major, depending on the type of correction desired. If your expectations are reasonable and shared with our best rhinoplasty surgeon, they will most likely be able to provide you with the desired results. The rhinoplasty effects are permanent, though subsequent injury or other factors can change the nose’s appearance. Nose cosmetic surgery must only be performed on a fully developed nose. Complete development usually occurs by age 14 or 16 in females and 16 or 18 in males. Ifsurgery is performed before this time, the nose’s continued development will alter the surgical results and possibly lead to complications.

What to think about?

If you choose to take local anaesthesia, be prepared to hear your doctor operating on the cartilage and bones of your nose. The nose, being one of the most noticeable features of the face, may have a significant effect on your self-image and appearance. If you’ve been dissatisfied with your nose for a long time, rhinoplasty is a viable choice to consider. As with most cosmetic rhinoplasty procedures, you are far more likely to be satisfied with the outcome of rhinoplasty if you have straightforward, reasonable expectations regarding what the surgery will achieve and when you share these with your top rhinoplasty surgeon.
Most health plans will not cover the expense of rhinoplasty unless it is performed to correct a functional problem or a condition caused by disease or injury. Even in these situations, consult with the doctor to see what your health plan covers. Costs of surgery include the surgeon’s fee and the operating facility, the anesthesiologist, medicines, splints, and other services and materials.
