BOTOX IS HERE TO STAY WITH ROOM FOR NEW ALTERNATIVES

It’s been almost two decades since Botox gave people a new way to face the world and its appeal is only growing, says expert from Aesthetica Clinic

DUBAI

For Botox fans, here”””s exciting news: a new kind of injectable neurotoxin has debuted to make all those lines on your face go away. Say hello to Jeuveau, a new, FDA-approved Botox-alternative, that is joining the line-up of injectable neurotoxins including Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin.

How is Jeuveau different? “The botulinum in Jeuveau is prepared using a unique purification process, which makes for a unique formula,” says Dr Majd Al Zoughbi, Specialist Dermatologist, Aesthetica Clinic Jumeirah, Dubai. “While Botox is FDA approved for a variety of aesthetic and medical issues, including excessive sweat reduction, Jeuveau is only FDA approved for treating glabellar lines (frown lines) and it may last longer than Botox in this area.”

Botox, however, continues to rule. “According to the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, Botox injections are the most popular cosmetic procedure in the US,” says Dr Al Zoughbi.

The most sought-after Botox treatments are for the lines between the eyebrows, called frown lines, glabellar lines, or elevens, crow”””s feet around the eyes and horizontal creases on the forehead, she says.

Each area has its own specific Botox injection patterns. “The Glabella (more commonly known as the frown line or the lines that look like the number 11 on your forehead) is given Botox that lift the eyebrows and eyelids and open the eyes, giving the face a more attractive look.”

Don’t sweat it!

A trending topic of discussion on social media in the UAE is how to block excessive sweating. The hot, humid weather in the region often lays to waste the most rigorous applications of anti-perspirants and deodorants, leaving a soggy, dripping mess of an image in the beholder”””s eye. Botox steps in here to help. In fact, it”””s an increasingly preferred antidote to hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating.

“Botox injections use botulinum toxin to block the nerve signals responsible for sweating, preventing the sweat glands from overproduction,” says Dr Al Zoughbi. If you feel like a dripping tap in humid weather, if your hands are perpetually damp and your clothes stick to you like unwanted second skin, Botox can tame those overactive sweat glands.
